In collaboration with Brook McIlroy, WalterFedy is providing civil engineering services for the Indigenous Gathering Circle at the University of Waterloo’s main campus. The project, includes a thoughtfully designed, partially enclosed structure that offers protection from the elements while encouraging communal gatherings. Inspired by the traditions of Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee Peoples, the design embraces the use of natural materials and features a naturalized landscape with plantings of medicinal and cultural significance. WalterFedy’s scope of work includes grading and servicing design to support the development, ensuring the site’s functionality and sustainability.

This space will serve as a place to teach, celebrate, and bring awareness to Indigenous cultural practices through its architecture, educational plaques, and special events. It is also intended to be an outdoor classroom for Indigenous-focused education and a gathering space for the entire campus community.
