WalterFedy provided architectural services to transform an existing ambulance garage into a waiting and consultation area for the Emergency Department (ED) while also upgrading and renovating the existing ED to meet growing service demands. The existing Emergency Department required additional space to accommodate increasing patient volumes. WalterFedy conducted a thorough study of patient, staff, and service flows to identify opportunities for improved efficiency. The project focused on optimizing space utilization by increasing the number of triage and registration areas, enhancing sightlines, and providing secure spaces for nurses.

A key innovation was repurposing the ambulance garage into a post-triage waiting and consultation area, complete with a nursing station. Engaging hospital users throughout the design process ensured the final layout addressed all operational needs and improved overall workflow. Designing within a fully operational Emergency Department posed significant challenges. Minimizing service disruptions during construction was a top priority, requiring close collaboration with hospital staff. Through detailed workflow studies and active user engagement, our team successfully delivered a solution that seamlessly integrates into the hospital’s existing infrastructure while enhancing patient care and staff efficiency.
