The TC Energy Spruce Grove Storage Facility project addressed the need for specialized storage solutions for pipeline materials and equipment. This included a combination of cold storage to protect steel pipes from the elements and heated storage to house items requiring acclimatized conditions such as valves, welding equipment, and tools. The project involved renovations, additions to existing structures, and new standalone construction, reflecting a strategic and integrated approach to site planning and functionality.
The project includes a 48,500 sq.ft. fully conditioned warehouse expansion, central plant interconnection/renovation to the existing building, and a new 50,000 sq.ft. unheated storage building. The scope of work included design development through construction contract administration for the warehouse and unheated storage. The heated storage facility was designed to accommodate acclimatized storage needs and enhance operational efficiencies. This facility expanded the existing office and warehouse, incorporating several key features. A sophisticated automated racking system, known as Vertical Lift Modules, was retrofitted into the existing structure to enable efficient storage and retrieval. A dedicated area on the east side was allocated for forklift access, ensuring seamless operational flow between the new and existing spaces. The facility was constructed as a 15-meter-tall, single-story steel structure with insulated metal panels. Overhead cranes were installed on the south side to facilitate truck unloading, improving logistical operations. Additionally, the facility included an office area comprising three offices, open workstations, a meeting room, washrooms, and service spaces. Mechanical systems, including MRUs, were installed on the west exterior to optimize climate control and maximize interior space.
