WalterFedy provided civil engineering services for the West Park Healthcare Centre redevelopment in Toronto as part of an EllisDon-led team. This transformative project replaces aging infrastructure with a modern, six-storey, 730,000 SF healthcare centre, enhancing specialized rehabilitation, complex continuing care, and community health services. With 314 beds—80% in single-patient rooms—the new facility prioritizes patient comfort, accessibility, and pandemic preparedness.
Our civil engineering scope included site grading, stormwater management, site servicing, erosion and sediment control, and municipal road design. The project required detailed planning for seven construction phases to maintain uninterrupted healthcare operations. When project plans evolved to retain an existing building for a 190-bed reactivation care centre, WalterFedy quickly adapted by updating site servicing and stormwater management strategies.
The redevelopment also enhances the campus environment, incorporating therapeutic gardens, sensory landscapes, and expanded green space. Designed for sustainability, the project achieved LEED® Silver certification, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Beyond healthcare, this redevelopment supports the local economy, creating jobs and apprenticeship opportunities. WalterFedy is proud to contribute to this forward-thinking approach to healthcare infrastructure—blending state-of-the-art medical care with sustainable, community-focused design.
